Now, there are hundreds if not thousands of options for the daily driver, weekend warrior, or taxi driver. The US is certainly a country of drivers and everyone has their opinion on which car is best. So, let’s dive into some of the most popular used cars in the US.

In 2022, the used car market was skyrocketing. The delays with new cars left more people turning to the used car market. This resulted in 9.8 million units being sold. Many of these cars were from the years 2017-2021, according to a survey from iSeeCars.com. Overall the popular vehicles have remained mostly the same. The American consumer knows what they like and they stick to it. But it is still good to see how the list has changed and what newcomer is making waves in the used car market.

Ford F-150

The Ford F-150 has been the most popular vehicle in the US for over 40 years. It remains one of the top favorite vehicles, especially in the used car market. They made up a total of 3.3% of used car sales in 2022. Which I am sure comes as no surprise to many of you. This Ford is used for rangers, stuntmen, daily drivers, and agricultural work. They are the backbone of many communities. 

Chevrolet Silverado 1500

A close second is the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Also an immensely popular vehicle for rural communities and the casual off-roading adventurer. The used car sales for this truck came to 2.8% of the 9.8 million sold. Chevy trucks are well-known for their affordability in terms of purchasing and continued maintenance. Which is partly why they are so popular. 

Ram 1500

Ram 1500 trucks have been described as comfortable, spacious, modern, and versatile by users for many years. It is no wonder that the truck has remained a favorite for all the years. Of the 9.8 million sold, Ram 1500 trucks accounted for 2.3%. Making it the third-best-selling vehicle of 2022. The reclining rear seats, user-friendly technology, and under-seat storage will continue to keep this vehicle popular. 

Chevrolet Equinox

The Chevy Equinox is a competent compact SUV that is also affordable in all four trim lines. Offering space, easy driving, and a highly customizable base allows it to compete for the best bang for a buck. In 2022 this SUV was the fourth most popular car, selling 2.2% of the 9.8 million used cars sold.

Honda Civic

Honda Civic cars have been a long favorite of the American people. This past year they did drop in popularity ever so slightly. This is likely due to the fact that it does cost a little more than its competitors. Nonetheless, the car is still well known for reliability and being a driver’s car. They made up 1.8% of the used cars sold in 2022.

Toyota Camry

Toyota Camry cars are durable, reliable, and easy-to-maintain vehicles. Keeping the car going long past its years is a matter of maintaining its condition. These cars are easy to drive as well. They are great for city driving and road trips. The Toyota Camry made up 1.7% of used cars sold in 2022. 

Toyota RAV4

The Toyota RAV4 is a popular SUV among Americans. The vehicle offers excellent cabin space and storage space. It is also a fun car to drive which makes it ideal for someone who drives often. Compared to other SUVs it has fantastic fuel economy and is easy to maintain like many Toyota vehicles. They sold 1.7% of the 9.8 million used cars sold last year. 

Nissan Rogue

A spacious car that is easy to maneuver. That is the Nissan Rogue. The car has gained in popularity recently due to its affordability and relatively decent fuel economy. Many describe the car as a smooth drive and a car that is easy to park. Making it great for city driving as well as long trips over the weekend. The car sold 1.7% of the used cars sold in 2022.

Ford Escape

The Ford Escape stands out from its competitors as it has unique styling, a wide range of trims and powertrains, and great safety features. The drive is also easy and smooth. It is a great SUV for people with families. They sold around 1.5% of the 9.8 million sold in 2022.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

A Jeep Grand Cherokee is well-known for its powerful performance, luxurious interior, and hi-tech features. Though a little pricier than other SUVs, these features make it worthwhile. You get a ton of space and immense comfort. They sold 1.5% of the used cars sold in America last year.
